Final Jacket Foundation Built for Changfang & Xidao Offshore Wind Farms

Dennis Sanou, CEO of Changfang and Xidao Offshore Wind Farms at Copenhagen Offshore Partners, said that the last jacket foundation was fabricated for the 589 MW offshore wind project in Taiwan.

In 2018, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, the majority owner of the project, contracted Century Wind Power (CWP) to manufacture jacket foundations for the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farms.

Century Wind Power decided to partner with Denmark’s Bladt industries to build the three-legged jacket foundations.

The first phase of foundation installation work was completed in July 2022 by Boskalis for which the company utilised its Bokalift 2 after the ship underwent a conversation from a drillship into a DP2 crane vessel.

A couple of weeks ago, the Dutch company revealed that it had installed 31 out of 62 units at the site located some 15 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County.

Boskalis is responsible for the transportation and installation of the wind farm’s 62 jacket foundations and the accompanying pin piles. The Dutch company is carrying out the work in a joint venture with Taiwan’s Hwa Chi Construction Co.

The foundations will hold Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbines, the first of which was installed in July of last year.

Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farms are owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), which holds the majority stake, and by two local life insurance companies, Taiwan Life Insurance, and TransGlobe Life Insurance.

Offshore construction at the project’s two sites started last year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
