The final piece for the completion of the Borssele Alpha project was the certification provided by DNV GL, TenneT said.

The Borssele Alpha will collect the electricity generated at Ørsted’s soon to be built Borssele 1 + 2 offshore wind farm and feed it into the Dutch grid.

The 752MW wind farm will comprise 94 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines scheduled to be operational in 2020.

The substation was built and delivered by HSM Offshore which is also currently building the 700MW Borssele Beta substation.

The Borssele Alpha and Beta platforms are the first large-scale grid connections to be constructed under the National Energy Agreement for offshore wind farms in the Netherlands. Borssele Beta is slated to be completed in 2020.
