Bernhard Schulte, Pelagic Partners Win Baltica 2 CSOV Contracts

Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica – 2, the project company developing the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, has awarded contracts for two walk-to-work (W2W) accommodation vessels that will support construction and offshore operations at the project in the Polish Baltic Sea.

The contracts were awarded through a tender procedure conducted by Ørsted on behalf of the project company, with the scope divided into two lots and one vessel contracted under each lot.

For Lot 1, the contract was awarded to Pelagic Wind Services in April, with the tender value amounting to EUR 24 million. The vessel will start the work under the contract between October 2026 and January 2027 and is expected to support the project until November/December 2027, with extension options available.

The contract for Lot 2, valued at nearly EUR 26 million, was awarded to Bernhard Schulte in July. The vessel is scheduled to start between December 2026 and February 2027, and operations are planned until July 2027, also with extension options.

According to information shared in the public tender award notices, published in May and August, the vessels expected to be deployed on Baltica 2 under these contracts are Bernhard Schulte’s commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) Windea Clarke and Pelagic’s CSOV Pelagic Walu.

Bernhard Schulte Offshore (BSO) took delivery of Windea Clarke, the fourth and final CSOV in its latest newbuild series, at the beginning of July. Built to Ulstein’s SX222 design, the vessel features the shipbuilder’s TWIN X-STERN solution, hybrid battery propulsion and a methanol-ready design. It has also received DNV’s SILENT-E class notation for reduced underwater radiated noise.

Pelagic is currently building its Pelagic Walu at Cochin Shipyard in India, where the CSOV was launched in October 2025. The vessel combines hybrid-electric propulsion, methanol-ready main engines, large lithium-ion battery systems to reduce fuel consumption and emissions during operations, and a motion-compensated walk-to-work gangway, according to information on the company’s website.

At Baltica 2, the two vessels will provide offshore accommodation and access to wind turbines, offshore substations and other installations during the construction and early operational phases.   

Developed jointly by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027.

Offshore construction at the Baltica 2 site, located around 40 kilometres off the coast near Ustka, started earlier this year, with monopile installation now underway.

The 1.5 GW offshore wind farm will feature 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines.
