RWE Starts Power Performance Testing on Galloper OWF Turbines

RWE has started Power Performance Testing of the wind turbines at the Galloper offshore wind farm in the UK, using the nacelle based LiDAR ZX TM from ZX Lidars.

Galloper, which was officially inaugurated in September 2018, comprises 56 Siemens Gamesa 6.3 MW turbines, installed at the wind farm site located some 30 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk.

In October 2020, Siemens Gamesa approved the use of the nacelle based ZX TM LiDAR from ZX Lidars for Power Performance Testing.

ZX TM allows the power curve of wind turbines to be measured and verified as a function of the Hub Height wind speed and replaces the need for using a meteorological mast, according to ZX Lidars.

“Operational rotor equivalent power curves can also be measured with ZX TM’s unique 50 points around the full rotor swept area, particularly important for turbines with larger rotor diameters offshore and on sites with complex veer or shear profiles onshore”, the company said.
