Having an office in Hull means company representatives will be closer to the four projects they are working on in the UK on behalf of DONG Energy, Siemens and others, and will better position them to win further work on UK offshore wind projects, according to Green Port Hull.

The relocation and investment has been assisted by the Green Port Growth Programme, supported by the Regional Growth Fund (RGF).

One staff member will be based in Hull initially and Scanel International hopes to expand the team once more UK contracts are secured.

Ove Bolander Johansen, International Key Account Manager – Wind at Scanel International, said: “We tested the water with a satellite office in Billingham, but found Hull to be the perfect location for our first fixed base, as it is right on the Humber, at the heart of the UK’s emerging offshore wind sector. It’s also equidistant to Lowestoft and the wind farms off the east coast, and Newcastle and Scotland. We’re also carrying out work at Hornsea Project One, which is a large project for us, so it’s great to be so close.”

Tim Rix, Chairman of the Green Port Growth Programme, said: “The offshore wind market has been established in Denmark for some time, so companies like Scanel International have expertise that can support our local supply chain and the developing UK wind industry. Scanel International has secured contracts to work on pre-assembly sites here, and sees the potential to grow its business in the UK, and we are delighted they’ve chosen Hull as a location for its first permanent base in the UK.”

Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady, said: “I am delighted that Scanel has chosen Hull as its UK base, and it is testament to the fantastic work that has taken place by Green Port Hull. It is another vote of confidence in Hull and the Humber as we continue our ambition to be a world-class centre for renewable energy.”

Scanel International provides design and engineering for integrated electrical systems, equipment, installation, commissioning and services for marine, offshore, oil & gas and wind industries. The company’s new base is located at One Business Village, in Hedon Road.
