Vallourec to Make MSH Sections for Walney Extension Anode Cages

French tubular components maker Vallourec received an order for 400 tons of MSH sections which will be used as basic structures for the anode cages constituting the corrosion protection system of the Walney Extension offshore wind farm.

Walney Extension is a project of DONG Energy UK in the Irish Sea comprising up to 90 turbines with a total capacity of up to 660 MW.

The MSH sections provided by Vallourec will serve to fix a set of sacrificial anodes which help slowing down the oxidation of the wind turbines’ metal surface.

Prior to their final assembly the tubes will be bent to their specified shape by Kersten Europe.

Bladt Industries, responsible for the anode cage assembly, is specialized in large-scale steel structures including foundations and substructures for wind turbine projects.

The Walney Extension offshore wind farm is being built 9 kilometres off the Cumbrian Coast and is expected to be completed in 2019.
