Alun Griffiths Prepares Port of Mostyn for Wind Turbines (UK)

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd has been awarded a GBP 1.1 million contract by RWE npower, the company behind the Gwynt-y-Mor Offshore Wind Farm, to prepare the turbine pre-assembly site at the Port of Mostyn.

The civil engineering works are underway to establish a purpose built facility on a 28 acre site where the turbine manufacturer Siemens will undertake assembly works of their 3.6 MW turbine. The required civil engineering works include the construction of a 14,682sq foot temporary office block, the preparation and compaction of lay down areas, haul roads as well as the installation of essential site infrastructure.

The site preparation works will be completed in Q1 2013 with the first turbine components expected to be delivered to the Port of Mostyn in January 2013.

For the turbine construction works, the project will employ in excess of 200 staff working at The Port of Mostyn. The construction of the Gwynt-y-Mor Wind Farm will take place during 2013-2014, and will see an array of 160 Siemens’ 3.6MW wind turbines established 15-20km off the coast of North Wales.
