The base consists of a 210-square-metre administrative space that can accommodate 20 people and a technical area of 120 square metres.

It is intended for maintenance activities for the first years of operation of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, which Siemens Gamesa’s technical teams will carry out.

The teams will be transported via Edda Wind’s service operation vessel (SVO) Edda Goelo, launched in July last year.

The vessel is able to accommodate up to 40 technicians and 20 crew members. Edda Goelo will work on the offshore wind farm in a two-week shift.

The SOV will commence operations at Iberdrola’s wind farm in 2023. The vessel and the temporary technical base in the port of Saint-Malo will be operational for a maximum of five years, Ailes Mariners said.

The future maintenance base of the offshore wind farm will be located in the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux, according to Ailes Marines.

The port could create approximately 80 direct jobs mobilised for the maintenance activities of the 62 8 MW wind turbines for the entire operation of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm.

The 496 MW Saint-Brieuc, located 16 kilometres off the northwest coast of France in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc in the English Channel, once operational in 2023, is expected to generate enough clean energy for 835,000 people.

The offshore wind farm is developed by Iberdrola’s wholly-owned subsidiary Ailes Marines.
