Other applicants who also qualified for the Phase 2 site auction included EDF Renewable Offshore Polska I, who were the runners-up, followed by Cormano and POW-Polish Offshore Wind.

The auction for an area of 118.4 square kilometres was announced in January 2022.

Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, said that this area is located close to the company’s other offshore wind projects under development and to the service port in Ustka, which should allow them to take advantage of the synergy effect and the scale of their operations.

This permit, in addition to our other three offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea with a total installed capacity of approximately 3.4 GW, is another step towards achieving the strategic goal of the PGE Group. That is to have at least 6.5 GW of installed generation capacity in the Baltic Sea by 2040“, added Dąbrowski.

Last week, the Polish government announced that the previous auction for developing offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, for area 53.E.1, finished without a winner.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, none of the applications met the qualifying minimum in terms of project implementation timeline.
