Aker Solutions Picks Protea Cranes for US Offshore Wind Project

Protea, a global manufacturer of offshore handling equipment, has been selected by Aker Solutions as the supplier of two service cranes for the offshore wind farm project off the coast of the USA.

The service cranes have a lifting capacity of one tonne and a radius of four metres, the company said.

Aker Solutions, together with Siemens Energy, is currently responsible for supplying the Sunrise Wind offshore wind project in the US with the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system.

The company won a contract for the offshore wind project in October last year, valued at more than NOK 3 billion (approximately EUR 309 million / USD 358 million).

Under the agreement, Aker Solutions will deliver the offshore platform consisting of a steel jacket foundation, and a topside platform deck housing the electrical equipment.

The final deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2025.

Located about 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Long Island, the 924 MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm is developed by a joint venture between Danish clean energy company Ørsted and US-based energy provider Eversource.
