Italian Floating Offshore Wind Farm Secures Maritime Concession

Falck Renewables and BlueFloat Energy have secured a 40-year maritime concession for the 1,350 MW Odra Energia floating wind project offshore off the southern coast of the province of Lecce, Italy.

The Odra Energia wind farm will comprise 90 wind turbines installed in the Ionian Sea, between 12 kilometres and 24 kilometres off the south-eastern coast of the Puglia Region.

The turbines will be installed in water depths of between 100 metres and 200 metres.

The proposed project is expected to generate 1,500 direct jobs during the construction phase, arising to 4,000 during peak periods, business opportunities for local companies, and collaboration with universities and research centres, the developers said.

Falck Renewables and BlueFloat currently have five floating wind projects under development in Italy with a combined capacity of around 4.6 GW.

Apart from Odra Energia, the partners are developing the 675 MW Minervia Energia wind farm in the Gulf of Squillace, the 1.4 GW Nora Energia 1 and 2 wind farms in the Gulf of Cagliari, and the 1.2 GW Kailia Energia off Brindisi.
