The cables are to be delivered by 2021, the company said. The Greater Changhua 1 & 2a wind farm will feature 112 Siemens Gamesa 8MW wind turbines installed on jacket foundations 35-50 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County. The offshore wind farm will be constructed in 2021 and 2022.

This is LS Cable & System’s second order from Ørsted. Back in October 2018, Ørsted awarded t LS Cable & System with a contract to supply the onshore cable for the 1.4GW Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm in the UK.

President & CEO of LS C&S, Roe-hyun Myung, said: “LS C&S entered the submarine cable business in 2009 and has since completed large projects in Europe, North America, the Middle East and other regions. Within just ten years the company has gained global competence. Offshore wind power development is becoming more active, especially in Europe and Asia, and continuous growth of the submarine cable business is expected.”

Ørsted’s Greater Changhua offshore wind sites have a total potential capacity of 2.4GW. With a total of approximately 1.8GW earmarked for buildout in 2021 and 2025, the remaining 0.6GW can participate in future auction rounds, the developer said.
