Beatrice Counts to 70

Jack-up vessel Pacific Orca is installing the 70th Siemens Gamesa 7MW wind turbine on the 588MW Beatrice wind farm in the Outer Moray Firth, Scotland, Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL) said.

In total, Beatrice will comprise 84 wind turbines once fully built. The wind turbines are being commissioned shortly after the installation.

Swire Blue Ocean’s jack-up is loading the turbines in sets of five at the Nigg port, Siemens Gamesa’s pre-assembly base, and installing them at the site 13 kilometres off the Caithness coast.

The commissioning works are carried out using a combination of the walk-to-work vessel Island Crown and crew transfer vessels Fob Swath 3 and Seacat Resolute. The wind farm is expected to be completed this Spring.

BOWL is a joint venture partnership between SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and Red Rock Power Limited (25%).
