Based some 120 kilometres off the coast of Yorkshire, the project is being developed by Ørsted and will consist of 174 7MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, covering an area of 407 square kilometres.

SMC and Siemens Gamesa have worked together on offshore wind projects across Europe since 2009.

“We are – once again – making the world’s largest offshore wind farm, and once again with SMC,” Stefan Mougard, Siemens Gamesa’s Marine Operations Manager, said.

”Last time we teamed up for beating records was in 2018 at the Walney Extension wind farm, which was a tremendous success, and we look forward to a similar lean and efficient operation of our assets offshore on this great project.”

Hornsea One represents the 28th marine coordination project SMC have delivered to the offshore wind sector.

SMC Operations Manager, Steve Evans, said: ”We have worked on numerous pioneering projects with Siemens, from the largest to the furthest offshore, and the opportunity to support this project, located on our doorstep, is of great personal value to us as a business.”
