Other stakeholders in the Trianel Borkum II offshore wind farm include EWE AG and Trianel, with each company controlling a 37.5 percent share of the project.

EWE AG and Trianel are currently in talks with interested third-party investors for the remaining 15% stake in the project.

The final investment decision for the wind farm is expected to be reached in the first half of 2017, with the project entering the construction phase in early 2018.

Stadtwerke Bochum already controls an 18.5 percent stake in the fully commissioned 200MW Trianel Borkum I offshore wind farm.

“Offshore wind energy is an important pillar of energy demand. Together with Trianel, we have pioneered this area and brought the first Stadtwerk wind farm on the high seas to Borkum,” said Dietmar Spohn, spokesman of Stadtwerke Bochum.

“By participating in the second stage, we want to build on the success and expand our activities in the renewable energy market.”

Trianel Borkum II is located in the North Sea, 45 kilometers off the coast of Borkum, in the immediate vicinity of Trianel Borkum I.

The wind farm will comprise 32 6.2M152 Senvion turbines expected to be fully commissioned by the end of 2019.

Seaway Heavy Lifting was awarded an EPCI contract for the TWB II wind turbine foundations, comprising of monopiles and transition pieces, and Siem Offshore Contractors won a contract for a turnkey supply and installation of the inter-array grid cable system.

Trianel Borkum II has already been fully approved by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency.
