Geophysical Surveys Wrapping Up Offshore North Carolina

Geophysical surveys at the Kitty Hawk offshore wind project off North Carolina are being completed along with the associated cable-laying, Iberdrola said.

According to Iberdrola’s 2019 financial results, the project is continuing apace and high-definition digital bird surveys have been carried out over the last 12 months.

Avangrid Renewables

The company’s subsidiary Avangrid Renewables submitted an application to the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in October 2019 for permission to install equipment to measure wind speeds and sea conditions at the 495km2 area.

Approval is expected to be received in the spring this year, with the roll-out following shortly after.

To remind, Avangrid secured the rights to develop the 122,405-acre lease area in May 2017. It has a potential generating capacity of 1,486MW and is the first offshore wind lease area to be secured off North Carolina.
