RTS Wind to Continue Taking Care of Thornton Bank Wind Turbine Blades

RTS Wind has signed a multi-year framework agreement with C-Power for blade maintenance at the Thornton Bank offshore wind farm in Belgium, after completing a three-year contract for the same work in 2023.

Dirk Magnus, CEO at C-Power, said: “The extension of our framework with RTS Wind aligns with our mission to harness wind energy efficiently and sustainably. Their proven expertise in blade maintenance helps to ensure our turbines operate at peak performance, maximising energy output and further solidifying our commitment to renewable energy generation in our region.”

The 325 MW Thornton Bank, located in the North Sea, about 30 kilometres off the Belgian coast, is Belgium’s first offshore wind farm.

The project has been fully operational since 2013 and was built in three phases.

Thornton Bank I, which comprises six Senvion 5 MW wind turbines installed on gravity-based foundations, was commissioned in 2009. Thornton Bank II features 24 Senvion 6 MW wind turbines installed on jacket foundations that were fully commissioned at the beginning of 2013. The third phase also comprises 24 Senvion 6 MW wind turbines on jacket foundations, which have been producing electricity since July 2013.
