Ocean Wind 1 is the offshore wind project selected by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) through a solicitation held in 2019.

The offshore wind farm will feature up to 98 GE Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbines and up to three offshore substations within its lease area.

At its closest point, the project will be at least 13 nautical miles (about 24 kilometres) southeast of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Recently, Ørsted became the sole owner of Ocean Wind 1 after Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. (PSEG) completed the sale of its 25 per cent equity stake in the project.

The monopile foundations for the 1.1 GW offshore wind farm are being built at the Port of Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Gloucester County, New Jersey.

The construction of the facility began in April 2021 after New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced a year earlier a USD 250 million investment into a new monopile manufacturing facility located at the Paulsboro Marine Terminal.

From this facility, EEW is also manufacturing monopiles for the Atlantic Shores 1 offshore wind project, developed by a 50:50 partnership between Shell New Energies US and EDF-RE Offshore Development.
