The second offshore substation for the SeaMade wind farm has arrived in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, from where it will leave for installation off Belgium.

The substation destined for the Seastar offshore wind concession completed its trip from Engie Fabricom’s construction yard in Hoboken, Belgium, to the Netherlands yesterday, Otary said.

According to the company, the substation will be installed in the Belgian North Sea “very soon” by heavy lift vessel Gulliver.

The 487MW SeaMade wind farm is a combination of the 235MW Mermaid and the 252MW Seastar offshore wind projects.

The first of the two substations was installed at the Mermaid concession at the beginning of March.

The substations will collect the electricity produced by 58 Siemens Gamesa 8.4MW turbines, convert it from 33kV to 220kV, and export it into the grid via Elia’s Modular Offshore Grid.
