First Borssele 1&2 Inter-Array Cable In Place

The first inter-array cable has been installed at the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind project in the Netherlands.

Nexans is providing up to 190km of inter-array cable rated at a maximum operating capacity of 72.5kV for the 752MW project, while Van Oord is in charge of the transport and installation.

Van Oord is deploying its dedicated cable-laying vessel Nexus and trencher Dig-It to install and bury the 94 inter-array cables to a depth of 2m.

Located some 22km off the coast of the Zeeland province, Borssele 1 + 2 will comprise 94 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines scheduled to be operational by the end of the year.

The installation of foundations is currently ongoing, and the first turbines are expected to be installed in April.
