Orion En Route to Europe
DEME Group’s DP3 offshore installation vessel Orion is on the way to Europe for the final construction phase before heading to its first offshore wind project.
According to DEME, Orion will arrive in Rostock, Germany, in a few weeks, where it will be equipped with a Liebherr crane that has a lifting capacity of 5,000t.
The 216.5m vessel will be able to accommodate a crew of up to 131 people and will be powered by a dual-fuel engine capable of burning liquefied natural gas (LNG).
In mid-July, Orion left the COSCO Qidong shipyard in China to start the first series of sea trials, where its performance was measured and the dual-fuel engines tested to their maximum power.
Orion will be deployed for the construction of the largest offshore wind farms, to service the oil & gas industry, and for the decommissioning of offshore installations.
