According to Speedcast, the solution will combine VSAT and 4G/LTE to deliver data and voice services for the corporate, operator and crew welfare networks.

Under the multi-year contract, the company said it will also deploy an SD-WAN solution integrating multiple carriers to deliver the best available connectivity and network efficiency at all times.

The two companies have been partners for more than three years, with Speedcast serving Fred. Olsen related companies globally in both the cruise and energy segments.

“We look forward to serving as the trusted communications provider on Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up installation vessels for the wind energy market,” said Keith Johnson, Speedcast’s EVP of Energy.

“Our partnership has been strong in the Cruise and Energy drilling segments for years. We have made significant investments in our robust, multi-access network technology and performance optimization solutions and both will be used onboard these jack-ups to provide reliable, secure connectivity for both Fred. Olsen Windcarrier and other onboard operators’ personnel.”

Bold Tern’s AIS shows the vessel is currently on its way to Siemens Gamesa’s turbine pre-assembly site in Hull, the UK, where it will commence work for the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

Brave Tern recently finished its job at the Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm in Denmark after installing the last of the 49 MHI Vestas V164-8.3 MW turbines.
