Parent company Vestas Wind Systems said the agreement is not materially above its 800MW announcement threshold for offshore projects.

MHI Vestas would be in charge of delivering the project, which would not enter into Vestas’ order backlog.

According to the company, an official announcement will be made if and when the project becomes a firm and unconditional order.

The joint venture between Vestas and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is behind the world’s most powerful offshore wind turbine, the 8.8MW model installed at Vattenfall’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in the UK.

In May, the company announced that its 9MW platform will be typhoon-ready in 2020, allowing for deployment on early offshore wind projects in Taiwan.
