Vole au vent installed the first out of the 36 monopile foundations at the offshore site in the German North Sea in March.

The Germany-based Steelwind Nordenham manufactured the monopiles and transition pieces for the project, while Jan De Nul was in charge of the transport and installation of the structures as part of a contract secured in 2016.

In addition to the 36 monopiles, the wind farm’s 56 MHI Vestas 8MW wind turbines will be installed on 20 suction bucket jacket foundations.

The Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project is currently being built some 40km northwest of the island of Borkum next to the Borkum Riffgrund 1 wind farm.

The 450MW wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned next year.
