Westermeerwind Goes Full Throttle

The 144MW Westermeerwind near shore wind farm achieved an important milestone last weekend during which all of its 48 wind turbines reached maximum power output of 3MW per turbine.

This led to the wind farm reaching its maximum power production capacity less than a month after Siemens installed the last turbine at the site.

The final stages of testing and commissioning of the wind farm are now being completed by Siemens, and when these works are completed, the final sections will be handed over to Wind Farm Westermeerwind.

Westermeerwind is built in the waters of the IJsselmeer, along the dikes of the Noordoostpolder. It is the largest near shore wind farm in the Netherlands, with the turbines divided into two rows along the Westermeer dike and one row along the Noordermeer dike.

The wind farm is expected to generate sufficient renewable energy for some 160,000 households by mid-spring.
