The highlight was the visit to the Eneco Luchterduinen offshore wind farm, currently under construction, where at the Aeolus was busy driving the tenth foundation pile into the seabed. This is the first time that the public could come so close to offshore wind construction work.

The main contractor Van Oord is currently fully engaged in pile driving of 43 colossal foundation piles using a new and special installation vessel, the Aeolus. The same vessel will also install wind turbines in the spring of 2015.

The wind farm, a joint project of Eneco and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation located 23 kilometers off the coast of Noordwijk and Zandvoort, will supply green power to approx. 150,000 households.
