UK: Wave Energy to Power Salmon Farm

A Scottish salmon farming company is planning to harness wave energy for a salmon farm off the Isle of Muck.

For this purpose, Marine Harvest Scotland will use AlbaTERN’s WaveNET device with a total capacity of 45KW, the Scotsman writes.

“This is a very exciting development with huge potential. Our environment in Scotland makes us a natural home for both salmon farming and wave energy and this could prove to be a winning combination,” said Chris Read, Marine Harvest’s environmental manager.

The company has submitted an application to deploy this wave energy prototype at their site near the Isle of Muck.

Even though wave power industry is very young, it could offer a solution for the electricity production in remote areas with no grid accessibility.
