Germany: Turbine Installation Starts Soon at Global Tech I

Construction of the Global Tech 1 Wind Farm commenced in September 2012. Its foundation structures are being transported to the construction site from BLG’s offshore terminal at Bremerhaven with the installation vessel INNOVATION. Meanwhile, 51 of the 60 metre high tripods weighing 900 tons each have now been installed there.

Following the transport and intermediate storage of the foundation structures, with final assembly at WeserWind, for the Global Tech I wind park, BLG was commissioned by the construction company HOCHTIEF Solutions for the transport of the tower segments and nacelles. After loading the first tower segments of types S1 and S2 for the AREVA wind turbines onto the transport barge STRALSUND at the production site of Ambau GmbH in Bremen, BLG undertook the seafastening of the components and arranged their transport to the Fischereihafen at Bremerhaven.

Using its special SPMT (Self Propelled Modular Transporter) vehicles, BLG subsequently transported the nacelles and their associated components from their storage locations at the company AREVA Wind to the Labradorhafen and arranged their loading onto the pontoon. The pontoon was then towed to the ABC-Halbinsel offshore terminal. There, the components will shortly be transferred onto the installation vessel THOR which takes the components to the construction site and installs them at sea.
