GDF and EDP Join forces for Second French Offshore Wind Round

GDF SUEZ S.A., French multinational electric utility company, has decided to join forces with Portuguese EDP Renovaveis S/A to bid for offshore wind farms in France, reports Les Echos.

The two companies will form a consortium, which will finance and operate offshore wind farms if their bid is accepted.

GDF was unable to win the bid with Areva in the first French offshore wind round.

In the second round, companies will bid for two offshore wind farms, each with the capacity of 500 MW, off the coast of Normandy by Le Treport and off the Western coastline of Noirmoutiers.

Another consortium made of EDF and Wpd, that won three out of five bids in the first round, is also going to bid for the locations in question.

The deadline for the bids is 29th of November.
