Denmark: BWS Appoints Kim Hedegaard Sørensen as Managing Director

Blue Water Shipping has just celebrated its 40th anniversary – founder and Managing Director Kurt Skov at the helm throughout all the years – and is now ready to put a new man in front of the company. 46-year-old Kim Hedegaard Sørensen is appointed new Managing Director for Blue Water Shipping – Denmark’s most versatile transport and logistics company.

“Much has happened in Blue Water’s 40 year history, and there have been ups and downs. When founding Blue Water, it was my ambition to create a good, local shipping and freight forwarding company offering consultancy and service to the local clients. The aim was to be the best in town. Our strategy has not changed, but today we are “Best in Town” globally – still with the client in focus”, says the founder and Managing Director Kurt Skov.

Time flies, and now it is time for me to step down from my position as managing director and leave the responsibility for the company to someone else. As my successor, I have chosen Kim Hedegaard Sorensen, who is a very competent and experienced man with the right values for leading the sustained development of Blue Water Shipping”, says Kurt Skov.

Kim Hedegaard Sørensen has a long career in the shipping and transport business. His most recent position was as CEO for TransAtlantic Industrial Shipping, a post he took up earlier this year. Kim Hedegaard Sørensen was previously employed in the A.P. Moller/Maersk Group for 17 years, occupying a number of leading positions, which included Damco Europe, Maersk Filipinas and a job as Strategy Manager in Maersk Line.

“I am proud to become part of Blue Water Shipping, which is a fantastic company and a strong brand. One of the essential reasons for entering into an agreement for this cooperation is the convergence of values between Kurt Skov and I. Together with his team, Kurt has been able to build a company based on a strong team spirit combined with ambitions and a will to make a difference”, says Kim Hedegaard Sørensen.

“Blue Water Shipping’s most important asset is its professional and committed staff, who keep a strong client focus and have a pronounced developer spirit, and I very much look forward to contributing to continue the positive development that Blue Water has experienced in recent years”.

Kim Hedegaard Sørensen takes up his position with Blue Water during the autumn, and 65-year-old Kurt Skov will subsequently concentrate on his role as executive chairman in the company.

“It has been an exciting time with both crises and successes – and hard work including 100 to 140 days of travelling every year, as it is necessary to go out and see for oneself, consider and evaluate. I still expect to be working actively for many years, but I will now concentrate on business development, clients and networking, which I find incredibly interesting”, says Kurt Skov.

Kim Hedegaard Sørensen is 46 years old, married and has two teenage children. The family will take up residence in Esbjerg, where Blue Water Shipping’s headquarters is located.
