Denmark: Bladt Finishes Foundations for 6 MW Gunfleet Sands Wind Turbines

On Friday afternoon, August 24, the employees at Bladt finished the two transition pieces that the company has fabricated for DONG Energy.

The two 350 tonnes transition pieces and the monopiles, each 406 tonnes of weight, make up the foundations for two of Siemens’ new 6 MW wind turbines that will be tested at Gunfleet Sands Wind Farm off the UK coast. The foundations are designed and developed to last for 25 years, while the wind turbines are developed to last 20 years.

In week 36, the transition pieces will be loaded onto a pram and shipped to their destination at Gunfleet Sands off the UK coast.

The wind turbines are expected to be installed at the turn of the year, and until then the transition pieces are covered with a specially designed cover to protect the electrical installations inside.
