South Korea to Get Largest Wind Farm in Asia

Dongyang Engineering & Construction Corp. signed an initial deal with local authorities to build two wind farms in a renewable energy complex in southwesternKorea, reported Yonhap News. That will increase power generation capacity of the complex, the largest one in Asia which is located 410 kilometers south ofSeoul, to 87 MW.

The local builder and express bus service provider said it will build one wind farm onshore and another offshore by January 2014. They will have a mutual generating capacity of 54 MW which will annually generate 108,000 MWh of electricity, supplying 30,000 homes.

Construction is expected to begin in 2013, and Dongyang will invest USD 131.71 million in the wind farm project that will help reduce approximately 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Another Dongyang wind farm, with a 9 MW generation capacity, is under construction and it is scheduled to be completed by July. The company also manages a 24 MW solar power facility in the same Korean complex.
