Gov. Lincoln’s Staffer Lands Job With AWEA (USA)

A former staffer for Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee has landed a job with the American Wind Energy Association, the lobby group announced Wednesday.

Christopher Long was the deputy policy director for the governor since Chafee took office in January. He left about two weeks ago, said Chafee spokesman Michael Trainor.

Long also worked as a senior policy analyst for Gov. Donald L. Carcieri from 2007 through 2010. In that position, he sought to advance development of a wind farm off of the Rhode Island coast.

The association said that Long would become its manager of offshore wind and siting policy and its “lead staff member and advocate on offshore wind issues.” Long will be part of the Offshore Wind Working Group and the liaison to the Offshore Wind Development Coalition, a spinoff industry group.

In the liaison role, Long is likely to see some familiar faces. The coalition’s president is Jim Lanard, the former managing director of Deepwater Wind, the developer that wants to build two wind farms off of the coast of Rhode Island. Long served on an internal committee assembled by Carcieri that selected Deepwater as the state’s “preferred developer” from a pool of seven companies.

Trainor said Chafee’s office is working to find a replacement for Long.
