UK: MT Højgaard Installs Last Foundation for Lincs Wind Farm

The last foundation for Lincs Offshore Wind Farm off the east coast of England is now in place. MT Højgaard is EPCI contractor for the giant foundations.

All 75 offshore wind turbine foundations for the 270 MW Lincs Wind Farm off the east coast of England is now in place. MT Højgaard has designed, produced, transported and installed the foundations.

Construction of the Lincs Offshore Wind Farm began in 2010. MT Højgaard’s contract also included six additional foundations for one of the company’s previous projects; the “neighbouring” offshore wind farm Lynn & Inner Dowsing.

The turbines at Lincs are to produce power later this year. The park will on an annual basis generate electricity for 200,000 British households and reduce CO2 emissions significantly.

 – We are very proud to be so close to completion of the Lincs Offshore Wind Farm, while we at the same time are installing 111 foundations for Anholt Offshore Wind Farm in Denmark. We have installed 82 monopiles and 51 transition pieces for this project, says Kim R. Andersen, Offshore Director, MT Højgaard.

Organising and managing the performance of two large-scale projects – such as offshore wind farm projects – requires the ability to see the correlation between many different sub-elements. If things are not done in the right order, or a task takes longer than originally estimated, it may affect all the other links in the process and result in delays.

 – At MT Højgaard we have the experience and tools needed to handle multiple projects of this size simultaneously. Anholt Offshore Wind Farm is our 12th project and being market leader in offshore wind turbine foundations – we are also able to develop new techniques while carrying out major projects, says Kim R. Andersen.

A new technique is that the foundations for both Lincs and Anholt Offshore Wind Farm are tapered. The previously used grout connection solution binding monopile and transition piece together has thus been avoided.
