NKT was in charge of the design, manufacture, and installation of the 40km extruded three-core 220kV XLPE HVAC submarine cable system.

The cable was produced at the company’s factory in Karlskrona, Sweden, and later installed at the site 40km offshore Ostend by the cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria.

According to NKT, the cable is now ready to transmit energy from the 309MW offshore wind farm to the power grid.

“We are happy to support the transition to renewable energy in Belgium by leveraging our extensive experience and expertise in turnkey solutions for offshore wind,” said Andreas Berthou, Executive Vice President and Head of HV Solutions at NKT.

When having the total responsibility and by working closely with our customer and suppliers, we can ensure higher efficiency and lower risks in the project interfaces. It has been a pleasure working with Rentel and the teams on both sides have done an amazing job driving the project to success.”

The Rentel offshore wind farm comprises 42 7.35MW Siemens Gamesa D7-type turbines, the last of which was installed by A2Sea’s Sea Installer at the beginning of September.

The 309MW project is scheduled to be fully commissioned by the end of the year.
