SPIE Secures Cable Termination Work on Poland’s Bałtyk 2 & 3 Offshore Wind Farms

Contracts & Tenders

SPIE Global Services Energy has been awarded a contract by Seaway7 to deliver inter-array cable termination and testing works for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in Poland.

The work will be carried out by SPIE Wind Connect, the group’s specialist high-voltage wind power business unit, with the offshore campaign scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

Under the contract, SPIE Wind Connect will perform the termination and testing of the 66 kV inter-array cable systems linking the wind turbines to the offshore substations. Each wind farm will feature ten turbine strings comprising five wind turbine generators (WTGs) each.

According to the company, the outermost turbine in each string will be connected using 400 mm² inter-array cables, while 1000 mm² cables will transmit the full string output to the offshore substations.

Developed by Equinor and Polenergia in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 will together comprise 100 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines, for a total capacity of 1,440 MW.

Seaway7 secured a contract for the two wind farms in 2023, covering the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of 100 66 kV inter-array cables, measuring approximately 200 kilometres in length.

Offshore construction at the project site(s), located some 37 and 22 kilometres from the coastline near Ustka and Łeba, began earlier this year. The 2026 construction campaign will include the installation of 100 monopiles, transition pieces (TPs), offshore substation components, subsea cables and supporting infrastructure.

The installation of wind turbines is scheduled to begin in 2027, along with the outfitting of the offshore substations. The first electricity from the offshore wind farms is expected in 2027, with full commercial power production scheduled in 2028.
