Equinor Orders Empire Wind 1 Turbines at Vestas

Vestas has received an order for 54 of its 15 MW turbines from Equinor for the 810 MW Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project in New York. This is Vestas’s first order for an offshore platform and its V236-15.0 MW turbine in the US, the Denmark-based company says.

The firm contract with Equinor follows a preferred supplier agreement signed in 2021 and a conditional agreement from March 2024.

Vestas will supply, deliver, and commission the turbines, and service them under a five-year agreement, with a long-term service support agreement going into effect after that.

Turbine delivery is expected to begin in 2026 with completion scheduled for 2027, the company said on 9 September.

The V236-15.0 MW platform received its type certification last year and has logged more than 13 GW in firm orders and preferred supplier agreements globally since its launch, according to Vestas.
