According to the agreement signed with the Port Authority of A Coruña, the parties will collaborate to facilitate the development, construction, operation and maintenance of future floating offshore wind projects.

If the projects move forward, this would include the temporary use of infrastructures of the Outer Port of A Coruña during the assembly and integration phases of the wind turbines, floating structures, substations, cabling, mooring systems, and other equipment necessary for the development of the project.

The Port Authority of A Coruña, Ørsted, and Repsol agree to work together to make offshore wind projects viable, although without excluding the possibility of undertaking initiatives with other entities, according to the press release.

“We are taking steps together with Ørsted to develop floating offshore wind power in our country and in particular in Galicia, which could become a prominent hub for this technology in Spain and in Europe. We actively work with other stakeholders in the region, providing them with all the information to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this source of energy”, said José Partida, Head of Offshore Wind Development at Repsol.

Spain has recently approved a roadmap for the development of offshore wind which calls for the development of 3 GW of floating offshore wind capacity by 2030.

The country plans to carry out its first offshore wind auction, in the Canary region, in 2023.
