Tokyo Gas and Shinobuyama Fukushima Start Floating Offshore Wind Study

Japan’s Tokyo Gas and Shinobuyama Fukushima Electric Power have started a study on a floating offshore wind project off the coast of Fukushima.

Located off the coast of Naraha Town and Tomioka Town, the 30 MW wind farm will feature Principle Power’s floating wind technology.

The study will rely on the know-how obtained through the Fukushima Floating Offshore Wind Farm Demonstration Project, Tokyo Gas said.

Tokyo Gas and Shinobuyama Fukushima Electric Power have started an environmental assessment based on the Environmental Impact Assessment Law, and have submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment Methodology for the project to Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Through environmental impact assessments, the two companies will proceed with the study while repeatedly discussing and gaining the understanding of local fisheries officials, local residents, and relevant local governments.
