The research projects on offshore wind foundations, with particular reference to the financial implications, will include GDG’s assistance in foundation design and support in implementing the design methodology already used in Europe.

Projects will also include a review of the client’s design provision and recommendations to optimise all project plans, GDG said.

Only a few days ago, Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions announced the company would be providing geoscience advisory and engineering consultancy services for the Baltica 1 offshore wind project in Poland.

Under a contract with the developer PGE Baltica, GDG’s scope of work for the offshore wind farm includes ground modelling development support, survey management, and general engineering support in relation to the foundation and cable design.

In April, the Dublin-based consultancy informed it had secured three ground modelling contracts for large offshore wind projects in the Celtic Sea, Irish Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean.

In the Asia region, GDG is also working on the concept foundation design for the first 200 MW of Phase 1 of the Phu Cuong Soc Trang offshore wind farm in Vietnam, under a contract awarded last year.

GDG was also appointed to provide geotechnical and geophysical Owners Engineering services for the Hai Long 2 and 3 offshore wind farms in Taiwan in the first quarter of 2020.
