Crew Rescued as Offshore Wind Ship Develops List Off Taiwan

Indonesia-flagged geotechnical survey vessel Patra Offshore suffered a heavy portside list while working on an offshore wind-related project off Changhua in Taiwan on Thursday, 22 August.

The vessel tilted to about 40 degrees and was taking on water, according to Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration.

40 people who were on board the ship at the time of the incident were rescued by the Taiwanese Coast Guard and SAR. No injuries to the crew were reported.

According to local media, Patra Offshore developed a list after a drill rod got stuck in the seabed during the drilling operation.

The vessel was reportedly towed to Taichung on Friday, 23 August.

The project the vessel was working on has not been disclosed.
