Foundation Installation Begins at Formosa 1 Phase 2

The installation of foundations has kicked off at the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind project in Taiwan.

COWI

The installation began in early June, a spokesperson from COWI, who designed all the steelwork for the 20 monopiles and transition pieces, told Offshore WIND.

Seaway Yudin is installing the foundations, which comprise monopiles produced by Germany’s EEW SPC and transition pieces manufactured by Thailand’s CUEL Limited.

Jan De Nul is in charge of the procurement and installation of the foundations, including scour protection and cables. Construction is expected to be completed this year.

Formosa 1 Phase 2, the extension of the existing Formosa Phase 1 wind farm, will feature 20 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines located 3 kilometers off the coast of Miaoli.

The 128MW project is being developed by a partnership of Ørsted, JERA, Macquarie Capital and Swancor Renewable Energy.
