Iberdrola Feels Wikinger Bump

Iberdrola’s Renewables business posted an operating profit of EUR 683.6 million in the first quarter of 2019, up by 13.3% compared to the same period a year earlier, driven in part by the contribution from the Wikinger offshore wind farm.

The Spanish energy company’s offshore wind farms produced 643 GWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2019, a 58% increase compared to 407 GWh produced in the first three months of 2018.

The installed offshore wind capacity remained unchanged at 544MW, comprising the 350MW Wikinger and the 194MW West of Duddon Sands wind farm in the UK waters.

The West of Duddon Sands wind farm produced 224 GWh of electricity during the period, an 8.4% reduction compared to 245 GWh of electricity produced during the same period a year earlier due to lower wind levels.

Wikinger produced 418 GWh of electricity in Q1 2019, a 158.4% increase compared to 162 GWh produced in Q1 2028 while the wind farm was still not fully commissioned.
