The Norther wind farm will comprise 44 V164 8.4MW wind turbines installed some 22km from the coast of Zeebrugge.

The turbines are being shipped from the pre-assembly harbour in Vlissingen, the Netherlands where Global Wind Service has been undertaking pre-assembly activities for a number of months.

Offshore works began in May with the installation of scour protection at the site.

Van Oord’s vessel Aeolus kicked off the installation of the monopile foundations at the beginning of August, which was shortly followed by the installation of the substation.

The 370MW Norther wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in the third quarter of 2019 when it will become the largest offshore wind farm in Belgian waters.

Norther NV, a partnership between Elicio and Boreas – a joint venture between Eneco and Diamond Generating Europe, is responsible for the development, the installation and the operation of the project.
