ABS Consulting Joins Taiwanese Offshore Wind Consortium

ABS Consulting, a subsidiary of ABS Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate with a consortium of research, testing and certification bodies in Taiwan and advance technical knowledge and offshore wind capabilities in Asia's second-largest offshore wind market.

The MOU was signed by a third party certification team organized by Taiwan's Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, which includes CR Classification Society, Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center, Metal Industries R&D Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Electronics Testing Center, Taiwan, Taiwan Electric Research and Testing Center, and Taiwan Institute of Economic Research.

This collaboration with Taiwanese stakeholders will promote the exchange of technical information in the areas of offshore wind inspection and verification, safety and risk management and certification, as well as technology innovation.

"As a trusted technical advisor and independent verifier, ABS Consulting is committed to providing guidance for promoting the safety and reliability of renewable operations in Taiwan as the country expands its wind farm capacity," said Todd W. Grove, ABS Group Chief Executive Officer.

"Through this MoU, we will collaborate with Taiwan’s major research facilities to foster industry knowledge and share our lessons learned from developing some of the world's largest offshore wind farms."

In April of this year, Taiwan awarded grid capacity to seven developers to lead work on 3.8GW of offshore wind farms to be completed by 2025. Further 2GW offshore wind capacity is expected to be awarded by the end of June.
