Bold Tern installed the first four out of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines at the offshore site some 57km off the north-west coast of Germany earlier this month.

In June 2016, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier won the contract for the transportation and installation of the turbines for Borkum Riffgrund 2.

The wind farm’s 56 turbines will be mounted on 20 suction bucket jacket foundations and 36 monopile foundations, the first of which was installed in March.

Located next to Borkum Riffgrund 1, the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

Ørsted, the owner and developer, sold 50% of the wind farm to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) last year.
