DONG Energy has appointed Con4Mare as the marine warranty surveyor for the transport and installation of the transition pieces and monopile foundations at the 1.2GW Hornsea Project ONE offshore wind farm.
Royal Boskalis Westminister has won a contract for the transport and installation of a part of the foundations with its new offshore transport and installation crane vessel for which an existing F-class heavy transport vessel will be converted.
Boskalis did not reveal exactly how many out of the wind farm’s 174 foundations this contract covers.
EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC) will manufacture all the monopile foundations.
Bladt is in charge of constructing 96 transition pieces for the wind farm. 56 will be constructed at the Offshore Structures Britain (OSB) facility in Haverton Hill near Billingham, Teesside, while the remaining 40 at the Bladt Aalborg facility in Denmark.
Steelwind will manufacture the additional 20 transition pieces.
The installation of foundations and inter-array cables is currently scheduled to begin in early 2018.
The wind farm will comprise 174 Siemens 7MW wind turbines, and once fully operational in 2020, it will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world.
