Palfinger to Deliver Hundreds of Cranes for UK Offshore Wind Projects

Palfinger Marine has secured orders for the delivery of more than 200 platform cranes and five substation cranes for UK offshore wind projects.

This includes 116 electric platform cranes with a fixed boom (PF 6000 with an outreach of 2.4m) for the Rampion offshore wind farm, which is being built by E.ON alongside the Green Investment Bank. A further 92 units of the PF 8000 with an outreach of 2.9m will be delivered to DONG Energy’s Race Bank wind farm. The PF crane has already been delivered to Gemini and Gode Wind as well.

Furthermore, Palfinger Marine’s hydraulic telescopic boom cranes have been chosen by Cofely Fabricom NV/SA for its transformer stations at Race Bank, Burbo Bank, Walney East and Walney West. Each transformer station will be equipped with a PTM 1800, which is fully DNV-certified and offered with installation and commissioning services.

“Securing these important projects shows that our commitment to the wind business has been recognised by the market. A multiple award win is a fantastic achievement and a strong signal that we are building the right high-quality products with the right organisation for the specific needs of the renewables sector,” said Herbert Ortner, CEO of the Palfinger Group.

“We are very proud to have been selected for these wind farm projects in the UK. This demonstrates that we are offering the right portfolio of lifting solutions. Our aim is to lower the total lifecycle cost and thus help to reduce the overall costs for our customers,” said Martin Zauner, Head of Wind Cranes at Palfinger Marine.

The first cranes have already been delivered on schedule, and the projects and deliveries will run until 2016.
