NSW Inks Nordergründe Cabling Deal

Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW), a wholly owned subsidiary of General Cable, was awarded the contract for the supply and installation of inter-array cables for the Nordergründe offshore wind farm.

After the first contract was signed on 29 January 2015 the parties to the contract have finished the financial closing on 2 June 2015.

The project includes 18 wind turbines of the 6 MW class and that will be located in the German North Sea within the 12 mile zone north-eastern of island Wangerooge, north of the town of Wilhelmshaven.

The cables will be installed with the cable laying barge NOSTAG10, which is designed for applications in shallow and near-shore waters in close proximity to the shore in water depths of 2.5 m to 10 m.

The subsea cable production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2015. The cables will be loaded at NSW’s pier directly from the onshore storage onto the NOSTAG10 for transit and installation. The installation is expected to be terminated in the third quarter of 2016.

Erhard Weitzenfelder, Vice President Sales & Marketing: “We look forward to verifying wpd’s trust in competence and performance of NSW to realize this complex project”.
