Jobs at Stake Due to EMEC’s Restructuring

Wave and tidal energy market demands have led the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) to reorganization, during which redundancies will be made, the Centre announced Friday.

To maintain EMEC dynamic and enable its prompt response to market conditions under tight R&D funding, the restructure will focus on meeting industry’s demand, Neil Kermode, EMEC’s Managing Director explained.

“The last year has been particularly difficult for the industry, and due to current market conditions I am going to have to restructure EMEC. Regrettably this will mean redundancies,” Kermode said.

“We will have to make some very tough decisions over the coming months, and will be consulting with our staff over this period to ensure that they receive the support they need as we go through this process.”

EMEC’s service to the industry will not be affected by the restructure, Kermode pointed out.
